FAIRHAVEN — A lucky seagull is receiving medical care after impaling itself on a lightning rod on top of Fairhaven High School.

The Fairhaven Fire Department received reports on Tuesday from staff members at the school saying that the bird's wing had become impaled on the lightning rod, preventing the injured bird from flying off.

The Fairhaven Fire Department dispatched a ladder truck and firefighters equipped with repelling equipment to the high school. Through the use of the ladder, along with the climbing equipment, firefighters were able to make their way across the roof and over to the seagull.

The bird's wing was carefully removed from the lightning rod.

The seagull was placed into the custody of Fairhaven Animal Control and transported to Cape Cod Veterinary Specialists in Buzzards Bay.
