New Bedford firefighters spent three hours knocking down a fire in a city tenement building Thursday night.

The fire started around 8:30pm Thursday in the second floor of 24 Myrtle Street in the near-North End. The fire quickly spread to the third floor and the attic.

Deputy Fire Chief Paul Coderre says the cold weather may have had something to do with the start of the fire.

Police say the building was being foreclosed on, with only two people occupying the second floor.

No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
