Fire officials say a dozen fishermen were rescued off the coast of Cape Cod over the weekend after they became stranded on a jetty as the tide rose.

Hyannis Fire Captain Greg Dardia says the 12 men were rescued Sunday morning after they had been fishing for scup on the breakwater near Eugenia Fortes Beach since 5 a.m.

Dardia says the rising tide cut off the fishermen's path back to the shore. One of the stranded men attempted to swim back but later returned. Another man successfully contacted a family member in town, who reported the incident around 10:05 a.m.

Rescue crews from the Hyannis and Centerville-Osterville-Marstons Mills fire departments brought the men and their caught fish back to shore. No injuries were reported.
