When you discover the unique gift shops and boutiques in historic New Bedford, you're likely to find scrimshaw souvenirs, brass whale men book ends, Black Whale sweatshirts or whale ships in a bottle. I am recommending some area shops, after which, I'd like you to share your local favorite gift stores!

I have started a list of gift shops in the area that I'm certain you'll enjoy browsing through. Let's start in idyllic Fairhaven Center with beautiful glass lighthouses and sea horses, wall art, lamps and a thousand interesting things at The Sea Witch Gifts, located in the gorgeous John Thompson house, circa 1830, located at 36 Main St. (508) 996-3126.

Nearby is the Euro Ship Store, 2 Middle St., Fairhaven, (508) 994-3020. Chock full of unusual gifts, from nautical to one-of-a-kind crafted jewelry. Both stores have a relaxed atmosphere that makes gift buying so enjoyable!

For novelties, novelties, and more novelties, be sure to visit Seltzer Gift Shop, directly across from Bishop Stang High School, on Rt. 6, North Dartmouth. (508) 997-0170. The Surrey Shop, owned by Joel Gonsalves at 2161 Acushnet Ave., (508) 995-4773, is a must! One of my all-time favorite gift shops!

Be sure to visit The Bedford Merchant, 28 William St. in historic New Bedford, (508) 997-9194 for souvenirs representing New Bedford and the world over! I have many more, but I'd rather hear your favorite souvenir shops in the area!
