The final of three public forums discussing the proposed New Bedford casino saw a decent crowd turn out to Normandin Middle School Wednesday night.

Over 40 residents had the chance to ask officials questions and share their comments and concerns. Many of those in attendance that spoke were in favor of the proposal and plan on voting "yes" June 23rd.

Ryan Mitchell is originally from the New York-New Jersey area but has lived in New Bedford for over 15 years. He's traveled across the country and has visited many casinos. He says he hopes the city will take a chance on something new.

"Since I've lived in New Beford I've always heard 'There's nothing here or there's nothing for us to do. Everything closes down at this time, there's no work.' Now here you have an opportunity. I like the attraction over the distraction."

Others say they feel confident a casino will bring much-needed jobs to the city and help stimulate the downtown economy.

Some opposition did speak up, asking about the "good faith efforts" language when it comes to offering 20% of jobs to local residents, treating employees fairly, possible competition with a future Indian casino in Taunton, and concerns over the fate of downtown businesses.

Mayor Jon Mitchell reminded residents that if there are any further questions before Tuesday's vote, they can contact the Mayor's office, the election commission, or KG Urban's Union Street office.
