New Bedford Police have very little to go on after a single gunshot rang out early Wednesday morning in the South End.

Detective Captain Steven Vicente tells WBSM News the city's ShotSpotter system detected the gunshot just before 1am at Crapo and Jouvette Streets. When police arrived, they found one shell casing in the middle of the street, but no victim or property damage.

A neighbor told police they only heard the gunshot, and nothing else like a speeding car or somebody running away.

The shooting remains under investigation.
