Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx says the federal highway trust fund will start drying up this summer. The transportation fund provides money for highway and bridge work across the U.S.

Lawmakers have been unable to agree on a plan to replenish the highway fund. In a White House briefing, Foxx warned about the possibility of crumbling bridges and highways and said hundreds of thousands of jobs could be lost.

Foxx called the situation a crisis and said transportation funding has traditionally been a nonpartisan issue.

Foxx did not endorse calls by some Democrats to increase the number of toll roads in the U.S. The White House is proposing closing some corporate tax loopholes to help pay for infrastructure improvements.
