Massachusetts State Police and the Bristol County District Attorney's Office are investigating after a fatal police-involved shooting in Dartmouth Thursday night.

Gregg Miliote, a spokesman with the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, says that just after 11 p.m. Dartmouth Police officers were sent to an apartment at 3 Ledgewood Blvd. after a 9-1-1 call that a man had entered his ex-girlfriend's apartment and damaged her computer and television.

The suspect, identified as 25-year-old Luis Roman of New Bedford, had already left the scene by the time officers arrived.

Roman called the apartment while officers were speaking with the victim and when he was told officers were on the scene he allegedly said he was coming back to the apartment, had his gun out, ammunition, and wasn't going back to jail.

A preliminary investigation reveals that when Roman arrived at the apartment complex he was ordered to exit the car with his hands raised.

Miliote says Roman then began to exit the vehicle before getting back inside.

Roman then allegedly reached for one of two guns in his possession when officers approached.

At some point Roman fired two shots and the officers shot and fatally wounded Roman.

Officers gave Roman first aid and CPR until an ambulance arrived and transported him to St. Luke's Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Miliote says the investigation remains in its preliminary stages and the District Attorney's Officer will release its complete findings once an investigation has been completed.
