Fire officials in the southeastern Massachusetts community of Attleboro say a man was killed in a house fire.

The fire was reported shortly after midnight Monday on Woodstock Road.

Fire officials tell media outlets, a neighbor tried to rescue the person in the home by putting a ladder up to the side of the house but was unsuccessful.

WCVB-TV reports a dog was rescued from the basement.

The dead man's name has not been released.

The State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.

WHDH-TV reports the damage was estimated at $200,000. (MetroSource)
