John Farrell is in place as the 46th manager of the Boston Red Sox.  He signed a three-year contract and was formally introduced today at Fenway Park.

Farrell returns to Boston after spending the last two seasons as manager of the Toronto Blue Jays.  The Red Sox sent shortstop Mike Aviles to Toronto as compensation for Farrell, who was under contract for 2013.  Farrell replaces Bobby Valentine, who was fired after a last-place finish in the AL East.  The 50-year-old Farrell served as pitching coach for the Red Sox from 2007 to 2010.
