A Taunton police officer is being credited with saving a family during a house fire.

ABC6 says the officer was driving by a home on Longmeadow Ave. Wednesday night when he noticed that the back of the house was on fire.

The officer busted the door down and took a mother and her young son out of the home.

Fire officials say the woman and child were asleep at the time and were unaware that there was a fire.

No injuries were reported and the incident is under investigation.
