Fall River Police are warning residents of a scam making it's way throughout the city via "snail mail".

According to Detective J.D. Costa, some Fall River residents have reported receiving letters stating they are the winners of a cash prize, and have received a partial check to cover "non-resident taxes".

The recipients are asked to cash the check and send the money through Western Union to a North American affiliate to pay taxes on the fake sweepstake winnings. Once the money is received, the letter says the prize money will be sent to the individual.

Police say the letter sent by Cornerstone Media Group is a scam. If you receive such a letter, you're urged to call Fall River Police at 508-676-8511.
