FALL RIVER - A New Bedford man is arrested in Fall River after police witness him with a possibly stolen ATV.

Fall River Police say patrol officers were in the area of Thirteenth Street at around 4:30 a.m. Monday when they saw a man pushing a Honda ATV. The officers pulled up alongside the man and noticed that the vehicle's ignition wires had been pulled and there was no visible key.

As the officers exited the patrol car, the male suspect fled on foot. Officers soon found him hiding in a dumpster behind a nearby Honey Dew Donuts.

When questioned about the ATV, the male said he was taking it to New Bedford and offered police conflicting stories as to how he came into possession of the vehicle. No bill of sale or title was produced and the ATV's vehicle identification number had been scratched away.

Police arrested the man, Joeshua Matos, 21, of 191 Elm Street, New Bedford. Matos is charged with disorderly conduct and receiving stolen property over $250.
