Fall River Man Sentenced for Sexually Assaulting Teen Relative

FALL RIVER — A 37-year-old Fall River man, who sexually assaulted his teenage relative, will spend the next eight years in state prison, Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced today.

Luis Guaman pleaded guilty Monday afternoon in Fall River Superior Court to a multi-count indictment, charging him with two counts of indecent assault and battery on a person over 14 and two counts of statutory rape.

On February 25, 2016, Officer William Platt of the Fall River Police Department responded to a Fall River home for a report of a sexual assault. Upon arrival, the officer spoke with the victim’s father, who reported that his teenage daughter had been assaulted by a family member.

The father told police that he noticed his daughter acting differently for the past month or so, and on the evening of February 25, 2016, he asked her what was wrong. She said she had been sexually assaulted by the defendant, who was 35 at the time.

The victim told investigators that approximately three to four weeks earlier, while waiting at her school bus stop, the defendant pulled alongside her and offered to take her to school. As they drove away, the defendant told the victim that he was not going to bring her to school but that they were going to spend the day at his house instead. She said that once they arrived at his apartment, he told her to go to his bedroom so that he could show her something. Once in the bedroom, he told her to take off her clothes. The victim told investigators she was very afraid but was unable to leave. She then stated that when her clothes were off, he grabbed her on her breasts and put his fingers in her vagina. She also stated that he made her have sex with him. She said these exact events happened two more times.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Shelby Smith, and the eight year state prison sentence was handed down by Judge Renee Dupuis.

“The defendant took advantage of his relationship with the victim and sexually abused her when she should have been in school,” District Attorney Quinn said. “After serving his sentence the defendant, who is already under a deportation order, will be deported to Ecuador.”
