Fall River Man Sentenced After Two Drug Arrests

A Fall River man with two drug arrests received a prison sentence on Wednesday.

Gregg Miliote, a spokesman with the Bristol County District Attorney’s Office, says 34-year-old Antwon Griffin pleaded guilty in Fall River Superior Court to two indictments charging him with two counts of trafficking in excess of 18 grams of cocaine, and one count each of distributing cocaine and assault and battery on a police officer.

Griffin was accused of attacking an officer who observed him in a drug transaction in the bathroom of the Davol Street Station bar on July 30, 2014.

He then attempted to flee the bar and, after a brief struggle, was eventually subdued and found with 3 bags of cocaine totaling approximately 19 grams and $1,162 in cash on him.

Miliote says Griffin was observed in his car on October 14, 2014 engaged in a drug transaction at the parking lot of the same bar.

When officers approached the vehicle Griffin fled the scene throwing his jacket and a bag of crack cocaine while he ran.

He was eventually captured and Miliote says police found additional bags of crack cocaine in his jacket.

“I am pleased with the sentence imposed by the court at our request. This defendant was repeatedly dealing drugs at the same location, and contributing to the ongoing drug addiction problem in our area. However, I was disappointed that the defendant was released from custody after the second drug trafficking arrest,” said District Attorney Quinn said. “Drug dealers who commit offenses while out on bail should be held in custody pending the outcome of their cases.”

Following the guilty plea Griffin was sentenced to three to five years in state prison.
