A Fall River man will serve up to 10 years in state prison following his conviction on child rape charges.

Gregg Miliote, Director of Communications for the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, announced on Tuesday that 48-year-old Carlos Munoz pleaded guilty last week to two counts of rape and abuse of a child and two counts of indecently touching a child under 14 years of age.

Fall River Police were dispatched to St. Anne’s Hospital on June 16, 2014 over a report of a sexual assault.

Upon arrival they met with the victim and her mother.

The 12-year-old victim told her mother that she had been raped by a relative.

Miliote says a sexual assault kit was taken at the hospital they were able to link Munoz to the crime through DNA testing.

Upon his release from prison Munoz must also serve an additional 13 years of probation.

Miliote says the Distrcit Attorney's Office will not be disseminating any other facts about the case in an effort to protect the victim's identity.
