Police have charged a Fall River man with being the driver of a car that left the scene after striking and killing a Somerset man with cerebral palsy operating his electric wheelchair along the side of the road.

Police say Richard Reis was scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday on a charge of with leaving the scene of an accident, death resulting.

Authorities say Reis was the driver of the car that struck 65-year-old James Moore Friday night. He was found by a passing motorist who called police just before midnight. He was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The Herald News reports that Moore was returning home after attending an event at a nearby AmVets Post.

It was not clear if Reis had hired a lawyer. (Associated Press)
