Fall River Child Rape Suspect Apprehended In Florida

A man wanted in Fall River for the sexual assault of a child under the age of ten was found in Florida on Thursday and taken into custody.

A joint investigation involving Fall River Police, U-S Marshals, a regional task force in Florida and Mass. State Police located 75 year old John Munroe in a rented apartment in Deland, Florida, and placed him under arrest.

Police had been hunting for Munroe since October, when he cut-off his G-P-S monitoring bracelet and fled Massachusetts.

He had been charged last September in Fall River

with several offenses, including rape of a child with force and indecent assault and battery on a child under 14.

State Police say he'll be returned to Massachusetts to face those charges.
