FOX News is reporting that there are 'fake' cell phone towers operating to spy on Americans' calls and texts. It's very scary to think that there are at least 19 bogus cellphone towers, and probably more not yet discovered, working across the United States that could be spying on us.

Les Goldsmith, head of ESD America, a company that imports and sells tightly secured mobile phones that can detect "baseband" hacking attempts. Goldsmith calls these fake cell towers "interceptors."

Interceptor use in America is much higher than anyone has anticipated. Goldsmith told Popular Science in an online piece recently that one of his customers took a road trip from Florida to North Carolina and he found eight different interceptors on that trip!

Bogus towers can be used to deliver malware by attacking the baseband processor. Cellphones communicate with cellular-service towers using baseband processors, a chip that controls radio signals sent to and from the tower.

This is very concerning! Is that nearby cell tower actually a fake set up by someone trying to steal your data? This is an issue Congress must address immediately before our data and privacy rights are stolen.
