Fairhaven Says Goodbye To Fallen Marine


TSM – Marine Pallbearers carry coffin containing remains of Matthew Rodriquez.

American flags surrounded the First Congregational Church in Fairhaven Monday morning, for the funeral mass for Lance Cpl. Matthew Rodriquez, who was killed this month in Afghanistan. 

Color guards from various veterans, police and fire organizations lined up outside the Center Street church, as the hearse carryng the marine’s coffin pulled up to the front entrance.  Members of the U-S Marine Corps served as pallbearers. 

Among those attending the service were Congressman William Keating, Governor Deval Patrick, New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell and numerous local officials.

Following the hour long service, people waving American flags lined Center, and  Washington Streets and Route Six as the procession made its way to the Mass. National Cemetary in Bourne. 



The Fire Department used fire apparatus to hang a giant American flag over Washington Sreet, with the funeral procession passing under it.
