Fairhaven Salutes Veterans With Parade And Flag-Raising
Ceremonies outside Fairhaven High School highlighted Veterans Day in that town. The program included the singing of God Bless America, the reciting of the Gettysburg Address, the firing of cannons and the raising of a giant American Flag.
All of that was preceeded by a hour long parade down Main Street, featuring marching bands, veterans groups and local elected officials. Jim Leal of Fairhaven is a Korean War veteran who served as a medic during the conflict. He calls it "the worst job in the world"....
The Fairhaven ceremonies also featured a fly-over by a World War Two-vintage aircraft.
