Fairhaven Marine Killed in Afghanistan

A local marine has been killed in action in Afghanistan.

According to the Department of Defense, 19-year-old Lance Cpl. Matthew Rodriguez of Fairhaven died yesterday while conducting combat operations in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.

Rodriguez was assigned to the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion, 1st Marine Division, I Marine Expeditionary Force, Camp Pendleton, California.

Rodriguez was a recent graduate of Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech, finishing up high school in 2012.
