Fairhaven Detectives seized six marijuana plants Wednesday after a West Island man's claim that he had a license to grow the weed legally for medical reasons proved invalid.

Sgt. Kevin Kobza says that the man, who is not being identified by police, believed he could legally grow marijuana but police found out that wasn't the case. Police are not bringing criminal charges against the grower.

Police were armed with a warrant to search the property on Dogwood Street where they found the marijuana being grown in "a makeshift greenhouse" in the backyard of the residential property.

The plants ranged in height from 4 to 6 feet.
