A Dartmouth woman got a shock when she entered her home and encountered a stranger running down her staircase with a pillowcase full of her belongings. The incident took place Wednesday afternoon after 44-year-old Daniel Daosta of Fairhaven broke into the home on Whiteweed Drive, and quickly ran out of the house just as the homeowner returned. The woman called police, who caught up with Dacosta in the woods not to far from the home. Dacosta is to be arraigned today in New Bedford District Court on breaking and entering charges. Dartmouth Detective Robert Levinson tells WBSM News modern day homes are filled with easily accessible treasures.

Levinson says residents should take the time to make sure their home is secure before leaving, and investing in an electronic security system isn't a bad idea, either. Levinson says summer is the season for house breaks.
