Fairhaven Police and Frefighters on Thursday staged their own salute to fallen Marine Matthew Rodriquez, as the hearse carrying his remains traveled past the Fire Station on Washington Street.

The 19 year old Fairhaven Marine was killed last week in Afghanistan.

Fire engines, draped in black were lined up outside the station, where dozens of active duty and retired firefighters saluted the fallen hero.

Local veterans joined firefighters in honoring Rodriquez.

Freitas said he was pleased the community came together to honor one of their own.

Fairhaven residents, carrying flags, also lined up along Main Street, Center Street, and Route Six to honor the fallen Marine and show support for the Rodriquez family.
