A four-alarm blaze in Fairhaven is under investigation, after a barn and an office building were destroyed in the fire.

The fire erupted just after 7:30 this morning at G. Bourne Knowles landscaping company on Route 6 in Fairhaven, with emergency crews from Fairhaven, New Bedford, Mattapoisett, and Acushnet responding. It took about two hours to bring the blaze under control.

As for the cause of the fire, owner Bourne Knowles tells WBSM News when he arrived to work this morning, he smelled what he described as an electrical burn.

Fairhaven Fire Chief Tim Francis says a major concern was removing fertilizer and pesticides from the barn, preventing the dangerous chemicals from being released into the air.

Only one minor injury was reported after a female driver struck a New Bedford fire engine en route to the scene. The fire is not being ruled suspicious at this time.
