Fairhaven Fire Destroys Local Business G. Bourne Knowles

An early morning fire destroyed a Fairhaven office building and greenhouse today. The fire broke out around 7:30 a.m. at G. Bourne Knowles and Company at 267 Huttleston Avenue.

A 4-story office building and 1-story greenhouse were destroyed by the flames. Flames and smoke billowed into the air. Traffic was diverted off Rt. 6 near the scene of the fire.

According to broadcast reports,  there were people inside the neighboring office building when the fire started. Firefighters had to contend with chemicals in the building including fertilizer. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. More details as they come in.
