The Fairhaven Board of Selectman has unanimously chosen Mark Rees to be Fairhaven's first Town Administrator. The vote Monday afternoon was unanimous.

Selectman Chairman Geoff Haworth conceeds bringing on a Town Administration will be a major change for town government in Fairhaven.

"The Town Administrator will actually have authority to hire and fire and handle the day-to-day business that today is being dealt with at Selectman's meetings and the Chairman of the Board of Selectman," says Haworth.

He added, people with issues about decisions made by the Town Administrator can bring them to the attention of the Board of Selectman.

Board members agreed that Rees has they experience the town needs to make the new position work in Fairhaven. Rees is a former city manager in Portland, Maine.

A contract must still be negotiated. Executive Secretary Jeff Osuch has agreed to remain onboard till new Town Administrator comes in. He has also offered to help with the transition.
