A former Orleans Police Department clerk has been sentenced to 2½ years in jail for stealing $92,000 from the town and the police relief fund.

Anne Reynolds of Eastham pleaded guilty Tuesday to larceny of more than $250 and making false entries in corporate books.

The Cape Cod Times reports that the 60-year-old Reynolds was also ordered to repay the money.

Reynolds worked for department for more than 20 years. After retiring in 2011, she continued acting as the secretary and treasurer of the Orleans Police Relief Association until March 2012, when her theft was discovered.

Prosecutors say she took the relief association funds by making cash withdrawals and writing checks to herself, to "cash" and to third parties. She used the money for personal expenses.
