Multiple sources say a former marine is dead after an active shooter situation in Swansea Sunday night.

In a statement, Swansea Police Chief George Arruda says officers from his department responded to reports of a disturbance on Old Warren Road where a suspect allegedly destroyed some property and fired a shot over the heads of two people at the residence. He then reportedly told his former girlfriend he would get into a fire fight with authorities if they came to arrest him.

SWAT units and the Massachusetts State Police Air Wing responded to the scene and heard two shots fired. Police were able to soon confirm the unidentified male suspect was dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police are investigating the incident.
