An East Taunton woman was arrested for operating under the influence of alcohol Wednesday afternoon in Wareham.

At approximately 12:30 p.m., Wareham Police responded to a reported vehicle accident at the 5 Star Gas & Convenience store on Route 28, also known as Cranberry Highway.

Upon arrival, responding officers noticed a vehicle had narrowly missed the gas pump area and crashed through the front windows of the store, causing significant structural and interior damage.

An adult customer inside the store at the time of the incident complained of sustaining a minor injury and was transported to Tobey Hospital, where he was checked and released.

The driver and sole occupant of the involved vehicle, 52-year-old Laurie Texeira of East Taunton, was arrested at the scene for operating under the influence of alcohol and operating to endanger. This is Texeira’s second OUI offense. She stated she recalled traveling on Route 28 southbound, then entering the building. She was not injured during the incident.

Preliminary investigation indicates the 2005 Nissan Altima sedan drive by Texeira traveled through the parking lot and into the building while traveling south on Route 28. There were no brake marks noticed on the roadway or in the parking lot.

Texeira was transported to the Wareham Police Department and will be arraigned on the criminal charges Thursday morning at Wareham District Court.
