Eversource officials say an equipment failure was the cause of an early Wednesday morning power outage that left roughly 1,000 New Bedford customers without power.

Spokeswoman Rhiannon D’Angelo says the equipment failure caused two wires to come in contact with each other and caused the outage at roughly 2 a.m.

The outage affected the Mount Pleasant St. area.

D'Angelo says power was restored to roughly 400 customers within 2 hours, and says power was restored to the remaining customers just after 5:30 a.m. when crews finished their repairs.
