FAIRHAVEN — An early morning fire has destroyed a long standing athletic club in Fairhaven.

Fairhaven Fire-EMS Public Information Officer and Firefighter Wayne Oliveira says that several 9-1-1 calls came in at approximately 3:54 a.m. from neighbors who reported seeing flames at the back of the Livesey Memorial Club, located at 11 Hopkins Street.

The fire called for the response of two engines and a ladder truck to respond to the initial calls. Firefighters responding to the scene reported flames coming from the back of the building that quickly spread to the roof and engulfed the structure.

Oliveira says that mutual aid was provided by the Acushnet Fire Department at the scene while the Mattapoisett Fire Department covered Fairhaven's headquarters.

No injuries were reported and no members were in the club at the time of the fire. The building is reported to be a total loss. The State Fire Marshal's Office along with officials from the Fairhaven Fire Department will be on scene to try and determine the cause of the fire.

The Livesey Memorial Club has been in existence for over 60 years as an Athletic Club serving both youth and adult sports teams in the community.
