Superintendent Dr. Pia Durkin provided a summary of her proposed fiscal 2015 budget last night at Keith Middle School.

The preliminary budget request is $118.7 million for the fiscal year starting July 1st. That's just over $9 million more than the current budget.

Durkin acknowledges some of the burden may fall on taxpayers, but the schools need help...

The new budget includes a one time allocation of nearly $2 million for a new literacy reading program for elementary schools that would replace out-dated reading materials.

Also contributing to the higher budget figure is the High School turnaround plan, unemployment costs, special education programs, and the Parker School Plan.

The total cost from Parker School will be known after the state Education Commissioner releases the plan on March 7th.
