Doctor Pia Durkin attended the School Committee meeting Monday night for the first time as Superintendant of New Bedford Public Shools.

During the meeting Durkin introduce the new Theory of Action for the New Bedford Schools.

The plan says if the school system delivers rigorous and engaging instruction that's alligned with state standards, and if student progress is monitored closely, good things will happen.

Durkin understands that change is not going to happen overnight, but hopes that with  persistance, student acheivement will increase.

She says one of her first tasks is to fill openings in some of the schools and reorganize the central office.
