School officials say a lot of work needs to be done to drastically improve MCAS scores in New Bedford.

The 2013 scores were generally about the same as last year around the district, but New Bedford High School joined the Parker School and Hayden-McFadden as "level four" or underperforming schools.

Supt. Pia Durkin says improving scores at the high school is doable

School Committee member Bruce Oliveira also told members of the teachers union, the School Board is not looking for a "war" with teachers.

He wants people to work together to improve programs for the children of New Bedford.

NBEA President Lou St. John  says he doesn't want an adversarial relationship with Supt. Durkin.  He favors a collaborative relationship where they work together to address issues in the district. .
