Durkin And NB School Committee Review Goals

School Superintendent Dr. Pia Durkin offered a self-assessment of her performance so far, during a meeting of the New Bedford School Committee.

Durkin told the Committee,  the district needs to go a bit slower, to build a better foundation.   She also said principals may need more support to help their schools move forward.

Durkin says her goal remains to work with everyone to improve city schools.

She also addressed the criticism she's received so far, mainly from the teachers union.

Durkin says she's noticed that conflict or disagreements in New Bedford often become personal, but she's determined to keep people at the table and find common ground in order to improve the district's schools.
