The New Bedford School Department is getting its budget in order, but to do that, school officials were forced to eliminate more than 200 positions, including the layoff of 150 teachers. 

New Superintendent Dr. Pia Durkin tells WBSM News, the schools will open on time, but its going to be a challenging year:

And Durkin says the decision on layoffs is final.  In past years, New Bedford has often re-called teachers who received pink slips, but Durkin says that won't be happening this year.
