Nomination papers are now available for those interested in become Dukes County Register of Deeds.

Secretary of the Commonwealth William Galvin says The Dukes County Commissioners ordered a special election Wednesday night to fill the seat of current Register Dianne E. Powers, who announced her resignation effective November 7.

At least 25 signatures are required for nomination papers.

The winning candidate will serve the remaining two years of Register Powers’ six-year term.

Party nomination papers must be submitted to the local registrars of voters for certification by May 3 and certified papers must be submitted to Galvin's Office by May 31.

The primary will be held September 8 and the general election will take place November 8.

The elected candidate will serve the remaining two years of Register Powers’ six-year term.

Nomination papers can be picked up at the Town Clerk’s Office, 70 Main St., Edgartown and the Dukes County Manager’s Office, 9 Airport Road, Edgartown, as well as the Elections Division, Room 1705, McCormack State Office Building, One Ashburton Place, Boston.
