Drug-related suicide attempts are on the rise. The most alarming increase is among middle-aged people.

Two new reports highlight the growing problem. One study examined emergency room visits. The other report looked at the 45 to 64 age group and found that's where the increase in suicide attempts is most significant.

39% of those drug-related suicide tries involved alcohol, and 11% of them involved the use of illegal drugs.
