An East Sandwich man will soon face charges after he overdosed and crashed his truck in New Bedford.

Police say 46-year-old Leo Curran, Jr. of East Sandwich was driving east on Logan Street Sunday night when he struck and severed a utility pole, which caused a chain reaction damaging three other utility poles. The accident caused several outages nearby.

The responding police officer arrived on the scene and found Curran suffering from severe facial injuries and exhibiting signs of an overdose. Medics arrived and administered Narcan, and transported Curran to St. Luke's Hospital.

Witnesses say just before the accident, they saw the truck driving on Logan St. and stop at the stop sign at Acushnet Ave. That's when witnesses say the truck accelerated rapidly, crossing to the other side of the street before striking the pole.

Curran will be summoned to court to face charges of operating under the influence of drugs and operating to endanger.
