One man has been arrested after police say he and a passenger overdosed behind the wheel of a pickup truck that crashed into a tree in New Bedford.

Police Spokesman Lt. Amos Melo tells WBSM News the accident took place Saturday night near the intersection of Purchase and Sawyer Streets in the North End. Lt. Melo says the brown pickup truck, driven by 63-year-old Ramon Seijo of New Bedford, hopped a curb, striking a young tree and a no parking sign before coming to a stop.

When police arrived, the truck was still running and in gear, with both occupants unresponsive. They were each administered one dose of nasal spray Narcan. When paramedics arrived, the two were given an additional injection of Narcan.

Seijo and the 52-year-old male passenger were transported to St. Luke's Hospital. They did not suffer any injuries as a result of the crash.

Seijo was arrested upon his release from the hospital, and is charged with operating under the influence of drugs and operating with a suspended license.
