New research from Australia finds that drinking your sports drink in slushy form may improve your endurance.

To find this, researchers had ten men pedal on a bike for 90 minutes. The men each drank a sports drink at room temperature, or in slushy form. Researchers found the guys who drank the slushy pedaled faster and perceived a lower rate of exertion than those who drank the room temperature drink.

Researchers explain that the icy beverage absorbs heat from the stomach, which allows the heat to dissipate. Higher body temperatures during exercise can affect cognitive ability and motivation, and increase fatigue which can lead to a less effective workout.
