The Downtown Post Office in New Bedford belongs to the U-S Postal Service, but local elected officials are taking a keen interest in that building's future.

The City Council's Committee on Appointments and Briefings will meet with postal service officials on March 18th to hear about their plan to close the building and re-locate retail postal services to a smaller storefront Downtown.

Committee Chair David Alves tells WBSM News, the majority of the Council want to see that building remain open....

Alves says the public is invited on March 18th, and will be allowed to ask questions.
