It was a wild scene late Tuesday afternoon as New bedford police cruisers pursued a yellow Penske delivery truck down Union Street and onto Route 18 after the truck drove the wrong way on Pleasant Street.   The truck struck several cars during the pursuit and was finally halted off Route 18, near Weld Square where the driver, identified as Jonathan Carreau of State Street,  ran from the truck but was eventually arrested after a brief struggle.

Earlier, Carreau tossed a  loaded handgun from the truck as he was being pursued. Police also discovered he had an outstanding warrant on him from Wareham District Court. He was arraigned in Third District court on numerous motor vehicle and weapons possession charges.
