'Tis the season for giving, but Major Gil Parkhurst of the New Bedford branch of the Salvation Army says folks aren't giving to the Red Kettle campaign as much this year when compared to last year.

"Red Kettle is down about 35%. We were doing the numbers yesterday, so we're behind about $20,000," said Parkhurst. Parkhurst says the Red Kettle drive is down throughout the state.

The Neediest Family Fund has been collecting toys, food, and clothing which will be given to those less fortunate through the Salvation Army beginning Monday, December 14.

The Salvation Army is looking for volunteers and needy families alike. For more information, call the New Bedford Salvation Army at 508-997-6561.
