A deer crashed through the window of a South End business Wednesday morning.

Detective Captain Steven Vicente says at approximately 8:00 a.m. officers were sent to "Made Barbers" at 259 Rivet Street and when they arrived they saw the animal thrashing about inside the barbershop.

The business sustained minor damage. However, the deer was severely injured and had to be put down and an officer killed the deer with his shotgun and animal control removed the body.

Vicente says it's believed the deer saw his reflection in the window and attacked.

Once inside it's believed the deer saw its reflection in the mirrors and attacked.

Since an officer's weapon was discharged the matter is being investigated by the New Bedford Police Professional Standards Unit.
