The confirmed death toll in the Philippines from Typhoon Haiyan has taken a major jump. The U.N. says the Philippines' disaster agency now puts it at 4,460 confirmed dead.

President Obama calls the typhoon a ``heartbreaking reminder'' of the fragile nature of life.

He says the USS George Washington aircraft carrier is assisting recovery efforts and ``more help is on the way.''

The U.N. says some 920,000 people were displaced by the storm and a total of 11.8 million people have been affected by it. (Associated Press)
