A dead body was found aboard a New Bedford fishing boat this afternoon.

The US Coast Guard and local police are investigating the death that occurred aboard the Dinah Jane, a fishing boat belonging to the recently arrest "cod-father", Carlos Rafael.

ABC6 News reports that emergency crews were waiting at New Bedford State Pier on Saturday afternoon while the boat was escorted back to shore by the Coast Guard.

The boat's scalloping trip was cut short when the captain reportedly tried to wake a crew member and found he was unresponsive. Attempts to revive the 57-year-ol man failed and the captain realized he was dead.

SouthCoastToday.com reports the death to be a drug overdose and says drug paraphernalia was found at the scene.

The man's identity was not released and the joint investigation between New Bedford police, Massachusetts State Police and the Coast Guard is ongoing.
