A Dartmouth woman has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $1.2 million from the elderly doctor she had been hired to care for. Gloria Balestracci was sentenced Thursday to two years in jail, 10 years of probation and ordered to repay the entire amount. The 68-year-old Balestracci pleaded guilty to a variety of charges including larceny over $250 from a person over 60 and forgery. Prosecutors say she stole from the late Dr. Irving Snyder, a New Bedford podiatrist, between 2004 and 2009. Balestracci forged Snyder's signatures on checks that she cashed for her personal benefit and made credit card payments from the doctor's account to her own credit cards to finance a gambling problem. Snyder died in 2009 at age 90. that's when his family discovered the thefts.
